Downer Regional Office, Tauriko

Brunel Construction was appointed in 2010 as main contractor for this prestigious project to construct a 1400m2 regional headquarters for Downer. With steel frame and concrete first floor, the building’s facade comprised a mix of precast concrete panels and double glazed curtain walling. Full fit out included glazed internal partitions, suspended ceilings, flexible data and electrical installation and full air-conditioning. The project was completed to a high standard of finish within a programme of 32 weeks and to a budget of $2.0m.

IHC Offices, Gate Pa

As Stage 2 of the Courtney Road development, this project was negotiated with our existing client, designed, building consent obtained and construction completed, all to a tight programme. The fixed date for completion, required because of the expiry of the incoming tenant’s existing lease was never in jeopardy as Brunel completed with time to spare!

Construction and fit out of five new retail stores, downtown Mount Maunganui. The tight site and surrounding businesses remaining open required careful and sensitive management of the project. With a steel frame and pre-cast concrete panels this attractive modern Ignite designed building is now a land mark at the Mount shops. A delighted client has Brunel involved at the design stage on several other projects.

Following on Brunel also carried out the carpentry package, a total contract value in excess of $1m.

This 700m2 two storey medical centre was constructed in 2010 to an 18 week programme. Construction is piled foundations, insitu concrete ground beams and slab and timber frames, the first floor being light weight concrete panels. This building has individual offices, all air-conditioned and was completely fitted out within a budget of $1.1m. Site works included car parks and extensive landscaping.

Education

Matua School

An advantage of directly employing staff is that they are familiar with the special environment of working within an operating school. Naturally police vetting is undertaken. This project was for the construction of a new two classroom block, with associated decking and construction of new fire path.

Pongakawa School

Construction of a new four classroom learning suite, this project is a prototype which the Ministry of Education intends rolling out nationwide. An interesting building with added complications such as wet under-floor heating, fully folding classroom walls and CO2 sensors for the automatically opening roof-lights, gave the building a high tech feel.

Fit Outs

Salon One, Fraser Cove Shopping Centre

This highly regarded award winning hair salon at Fraser Cove was fitted out to a high standard for our delighted client. This was a turnkey project with Brunel carrying out the design from a client brief, obtaining building consent, manufacture of cabinetry and full fit out including installation of client’s specialist equipment.

Metro Pharmacy, Bethlehem Town Centre

One of a number of pharmacy fit out carried out by Brunel under the scrutiny of specialist fit out designers, Indesign. This shop was installed at the new Bethlehem Town Centre; three other stores have been complete re-fits, carried out whilst the shops have remained fully functioning, all for delighted clients.

Structural Strengthening

128 Willow Street

With a deadline to hand over to the incoming tenant, seismic strengthening of this existing pair of shop units was the building owners requirement. The other unit remained trading throughout, requiring steel to be threaded through the roof space from the adjoining tenancy and roof sheeting removed to allow its fixing to the front gable wall. Another complex project as unforeseen structure was uncovered and subsequent foundation re-design failed to prevent completion of the project to the required date. Brunel also carried out the fit out of the Robert Harris café, resulting in two happy clients!

Pumpkin Patch, Fraser Cove

Differential settlement between two buildings required the installation of an additional portal into an existing shop unit. This was required to be carried out whilst the tenant remained trading necessitating the use of a full height dust proof screen giving just 1.5m working space, careful liaison with the shop owner and through the night working. A very difficult job was completed successfully, for a relieved landlord!

Civils

Southern Pipeline

Part of the $106m new sewer line being installed in Tauranga are the ancillary buildings and structures required. A number of these have been constructed by Brunel as part of a contract with Downer Works EDI. Our tradesmen are skilled in the fabrication of the complicated formwork, reinforcement placement and high quality placing of concrete specified for these structures.

Bell Road Pump Station, Papamoa

A Brian Perry Civils drainage project required the construction of a dedicated pump station. Brunel were contracted to construct the building, a significant portion of the works being carried out in insitu concrete, blockwork and precast concrete units. Doors, louvres and ancillary items were installed to complete the $80,000 project.
